The Redfish bite has been about as good as I have ever seen it. We have been dealing with some cooler windy conditions but during the better weather conditions the bite has been awesome. Topwaters, Gulps on jigheads, Natural baits on Carolina rigs, and spinnerbaits have been doing the most damage. We have been finding big schools of fish in the marshes behind Bear and Browns islands, Emerald Isle and in the White Oak River. Most of these fish have been ranging from 22"-28". This action should only continue through the summer.
The flounder have started to show up here in the channels near the inlets. There are quite a few short fish with some good 1lb-3lb fish mixed in. Gulps on jigheads have been our go to baits for the flatfish.
The trout bite has cooled a bit lots of short fish but not to much to speak of. The Sea Mullet are slowly making a showing along the beach fronts and it should only be a matter of time before they work their way inside. There are also tons of blue fish in the 1lb.-2lb. range in all the channels and creeks along the crystal coast. I have heard of a couple Hatteras blues along Bogue banks. There are Pogies crusing the Surf Zone so that means the COBIA!!!! should not be to far behind. I certainly hope this year will be as good as the last two.
So if you are in the Crystal Coast are book your Fishing Charter call Capt. Robert Hall at (910)330-6999 or email: hallemincharters@yahoo.com
