4-24-12 Cobia Time

Well is late April and it is cobia time. There have been a few boated and a reports of a few seen so that means we are only days away from some of my favorite type of fishing. Most of the fish we will land will be site fishing but live baiting and anchoring while chumming also is super effective. I will be offering 6-7hr. cobia trips for 3 anglers for  $450 dollars. If you have never caught one of these brutes they are amazing fighters and even more amazing table fare. Days are booking fast so give me a call at (910)330-6999 or email: hallemincharters@yahoo.com

4-14-12 Inshore fishing is epic

The Redfish bite has been about as good as I have ever seen it. We have been dealing with some cooler windy conditions but during the better weather conditions the bite has been awesome. Topwaters, Gulps on jigheads, Natural baits on Carolina rigs, and spinnerbaits have been doing the most damage. We have been finding big schools of fish in the marshes behind Bear and Browns islands, Emerald Isle and in the White Oak River. Most of these fish have been ranging from 22"-28". This action should only continue through the summer.
The flounder have started to show up here in the channels near the inlets. There are quite a few short fish with some good 1lb-3lb fish mixed in. Gulps on jigheads have been our go to baits for the flatfish.
The trout bite has cooled a bit lots of short fish but not to much to speak of. The Sea Mullet are slowly making a showing along the beach fronts and it should only be a matter of time before they work their way inside. There are also tons of blue fish in the 1lb.-2lb. range in all the channels and creeks along the crystal coast. I have heard of a couple Hatteras blues along Bogue banks. There are Pogies crusing the Surf Zone so that means the COBIA!!!! should not be to far behind. I certainly hope this year will be as good as the last two.

January 26th Report Redfishing has been good.

I hope everyone is having a great year so far. The fishing has been pretty good with a mild winter and some calm weather. We have been sightcasting to large schools (50-200 fish) of Redfish in the marshes. Most of these fish have been ranging from 22"-28". The bait of choice has been a 4" gulp shrimp on a 1/8 oz. jighead. We also have been landing some really nice speckled trout in the Neuse River. The trout have been ranging from 2lb-4lbs and they have been keying in on soft plastics on 1/16 oz. jigheads and Mirrolures MR17 Suspending twitch bait.

This action should continue throught the next couple of months so give me a call and book your winter Crystal Coast Fishing Charter. Call Capt. Robert Hall at (910)330-6999 or email: hallemincharters@yahoo

December fishing has been Great.

After a awesome fall the beginning of December has been just the same. With mild temps and some calm weather there has been plenty of action on the inshore species. We have still been finding good numbers of speckled trout in the marshes. There are alot of undersize fish but still some pretty keepers up to 3lbs. The trout bite has been super good in the Neuse and New Rivers with good numbers of 2-4lb fish with the occasional 5-6 lb fish. We have been landing most of the trout on soft plastics and MR 17 mirrolures. The Redfish bite has been super as well with big schools in the surf zone and inside the inlets. There also has been some nice schools of fishing in the marshes in the backwaters. Soft plastics have been the bait of choice on these fish.

We also have been landing a few keeper flounder while targeting both trout and reds. If you are in Crystal coast, Emerald Isle, or Atlantic Beach area and have some time off and want to get in a Christmas fishing charter give me a call (910)330-6999 or email: hallemincharts@yahoo.com

April 3, 2011 Fishing Report

The Redfish bite continues to be strong. We are still finding schools of fish in the marshes and backwaters. The good news is they are starting to bite topwater baits. Most fish are ranging in the 20"-27" range. The drum bite should only continue to get better. We have also been finding some trout in the marshes and the rivers. Most fish are in the 1-2lb range. Softplastics and topwaters have been the best trout baits. Remember april and may are the best months to catch trophy size trout. Flounder have started to show up inside around the inshore structure and creeks mouths. We have picked up a few keeper size fish but most have been short. The fishing is hot so book your inshore fishing charter call (910)330-6999 or email: hallemincharters@yahoo.com
